So I was supposed to see the chiropractor for my IT band problems this morning at 8am. However, evidently I attended the dumbshit school of alarm-clock setting, and slept in until 10am. So no chiropractor until next Thursday. Crap. However, in my self-directed anger over sleeping in the one time it counted (sleeping in through class, psssh) I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill for the first time in a week. I think that taking a week off from running definitely helped my IT band, though there are still some issues and I doubt I’ll run much in the next few weeks.
I also swam and did some strength work today, which went well. I’m actually improving at swimming, which is more rewarding than I was anticipating. I also really like my new speedo–I’m finally thin enough to wear one without making myself barf.
This afternoon, I was feeling pretty good so I decided to go for a ride as well. I made it 3 miles from my apartment (and at the bottom of a huge hill) when I realized that my rear tire was becoming unseated from the rim. Since I was only 3 miles from home, my bike was rideable, and I didn’t feel like using a CO2 inflator to get going again, I decided to turn around and go home. I got to within 1/2 mile of the apartment before the tire became completely unseated and I was forced to walk. Fortunately, the tire, tube and rim were OK and I got going again with no problem.
So I went out, again, to do my normal 35-ish mile ride through Morgan Monroe State Forest. Things were going well, I was riding pretty easy and generally feeling strong, till I flatted the rear tire with 6 miles to go. Upon investigation, I realized that when I flatted yesterday (yeah, two flats in two days) I committed Grave Error #1 of Flat Tire Changing: ALWAYS REMOVE THE PIECE OF GLASS FROM THE TIRE BEFORE CHANGING THE TUBE. So today, when I happened to roll over a bump with the glass in the tire, I flatted instantly.
Hopefully this ride brings the end of my tire problems, but now that I have said that I will be guaranteed to get four flats in the next two weeks. But at least I got over 4 hours of training (in 4 disciplines) today!
